Japan blanks CL Bombers
Crystal Lake Bombers assistant coach Benji Winkelman succinctly summed up what transpired Thursday night at Lippold Park. "We just saw a clinic in baseball," he said.

CL Cyclones into championship bracket
For Crystal Lake Cyclones coach Tom Meitzler, the wait is over. In Meitzler's third year as head coach in the McHenry County Youth Sports Association – United States Specialty Sports Association Open Summer International Championships, the 15U skipper guided his team into the championship bracket for the first time with a 12-2 pool-play victory against Russia on Monday in five innings at Lippold Park to conclude pool play.

Air Force vet McCafferty honored
McCafferty, an Air Force veteran and member of the Fox Valley Blues umpire organization, tossed the first pitch despite a broken right hand before Crystal Lake Babe Ruth took on RZ Dominicana of the Dominican Republic in the McHenry County Youth Sports Association-United States Specialty Sports Association's 15-and-under showcase game.

Sabo inducted into MCYSA Hall
The McHenry County Youth Sports Association paid tribute to one of its most influential figures Sunday night. Crystal Lake resident Jim Sabo, the president of the Crystal Lake Babe Ruth Baseball League, was inducted into the MCYSA Hall of Fame during the United States Specialty Sports Association's Open Summer International Championships in Lippold Park.

Jack Sebesta took the microphone, looked out to the thousands of eager faces framing the baseball diamond at Lippold Park on Friday, and spoke with deliberation, the magnitude of the moment clearly not lost.
